Witch hazel rain !

[turn the sound up to maximum]

It's 3 pm on November 4th and the witch hazel seeds are ready to be disseminated after a 1-year process. The Indian summer allows the temperature to reach 15°C, which triggers every seed projection system. So it's not the sound of rain on the leaves that you hear in this video, but the Witch Hazel's own catapult system that enables it to spread its seeds up to 4 metres! Thousands of seeds are propelled by a highly sophisticated system.

Once the seeds have been catapulted, the hulls remain on the branches for a while before reaching the ground.

One area of the Hourquet's Domain, a small clearing on the edge of the forest, is particularly productive in terms of young Hamamelis plants. We call it "the nursery" and it allows us to naturally extend some stations for the future of PY'STILL, which already includes more than 4 hectares of Hamamelis plantations spread over 6 stations within the agroforestry estate.
